What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization. It is used to help people who are struggling with unhelpful internalized beliefs as a result of trauma. It is an effective treatment for PTSD, but also for “little t” traumas that don’t meet criteria for PTSD and still get in the way of living. It uses bilateral stimulation to activate both sides of the brain with visual, auditory, or tactile tools. Benefits can include: decrease of mental health symptoms, less need for describing traumatic events in detail, and a relatively short treatment duration (when compared to traditional talk therapy).
How is this offered at CLPAD?
Leigh Muths, MA, LPC-S offers a limited amount of in-person EMDR sessions in the evenings, at a private therapy office in the Clear Lake area.
Why do EMDR in person?
EMDR can be done virtually or in-person. Some clients choose to do EMDR in-person so that they can use EMDR tappers (tactile tool) and have the privacy of doing trauma work in a private therapy office.
What is required to do these in-person sessions?
Prior to a 90 min. in-person EMDR session, at least one 60 min. virtual intake or talk therapy session with Leigh is required to determine if this treatment is appropriate for you.
What is the cost?
The in-person 90 minute EMDR sessions are non-covered services, and are not reimbursable by insurance. The cost is $225 and payment must be made prior to the appointment. (The pre-requisite virtual talk therapy sessions are billable to insurance.)
